Logos and wordmarks are perhaps my favorite projects to work on.
When someone tells me about their project or business I start seeing images. When I take on a logo project I have an excuse to dive into research and inspiration to take these images even further. It’s a truly collaborative project – my design insight + skill paired with the inspiration + passion you have for your business.
What’s the difference between a wordmark and a logo? Here’s a quick explanation to help us talk about what you’re envisioning:
A logo is the graphic symbol that represents a person, company or organization. It may or may not include the name of the business. Think of the symbols for Apple, Nike, Starbucks.
A wordmark (or logotype as it’s sometimes called) is purely typographic. The letters of the name make up the mark – there is no additional symbol. Think Coca-Cola, Virgin, FedEx.
I always think of this quote when working on a logo:
